This summer, the Dutch theatre company De Warme Winkel will be going all out in its adaptation of The Three Musketeers. Slapstick and spectacle are fighting for attention while life stock is running for their lives, actors cross swords and an army of extras face a virtuous dead on stage.
For more than a century, The Three Musketeers have been a symbol for boundless courage. They had a sense of honour that would make the F-side blush. Casualties didn’t bother them. It is up to De Warme Winkel to shed light on this dark remnant of history.
The Warme Winkel made their name with theatre on location, but for several years they have also performed in theatres and at festivals in the Netherlands and abroad. In their constant quest for greater depth, they often first encounter laughter and secondly find themselves in an eclectic montage of enriching insights and raw humour. Their work is described as surprising, refreshing and also inspiring.
The Three Musketeers is co-produced by De Warme Winkel and the Amsterdamse Bostheater, in association with the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.
