Wat gebeurt er als je een conflict vanuit verschillende kanten bekijkt? Als je het als gewelddadig, maar ook als spannend beschouwd? Kunnen die afwijkende invalshoeken samen een krachtige nieuwe wereld creëren? Howling is een multimediaal, choreografisch project, waarin een crisis wordt gezien een potentiële kans voor een gezondere relatie met het zelf en de omgeving.

Danseres en choreografe Fernanda Libman doet onderzoek op het snijvlak van geluid en beweging. In deze dansvoorstelling verweeft ze persoonlijke en sociale breinbrekers met elkaar en ontrafelt op poëtische wijze de verschillende lagen van conflict.

About howling

Howling is a choreographic project that works with multiple mediums as to explore and extend on the idea of conflict. In this project Fernanda articulates on this notion as a way of opposing to the idea of repression, silencing. To think conflict not as violence but as tension; a divergence of narratives that when channelled well can be a powerful tool to build new worlds. The piece proposes an embodied study of crises as a potential pivot for a healthier relation with the self and the environment.

In a narrative that weaves, personal and social conundrums, the piece poetically unpacks different layers of conflict. Exploring artifices of consonance and dissonance in movement, sound, narrative and symbolisms, this research wants to create ground to the practice of dealing with conflict; to extend, complexify and problematise this phenomena beyond the binary of right or wrong

About the creator

Fernanda Libman is a Brazilian choreographer, performer and sound designer based in Amsterdam since 2016, where she moved to do her BA in choreography at SNDO.

Her artistic research lays in the intersectional field between sound and movement and throughout the years she became very invested in the choreographic domain of the aural. She works with the combination of sound and movement as a way to pierce the rigidity of the actual and by that gesture to open space for new narratives to take place.

In the past years Fernanda worked as a maker, performer and sound designer in works presented at festivals such as ‘You better move’ at Dansmakers, ‘Do Disturb’ at Palais du Tokyo and ‘Festival Cement’.
