Cinetree: I Swear

Cinetree Forest Festival

Cinetree’s Forest Festival is back! From Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 August, you can once again enjoy some of the most beautiful, entertaining, and acclaimed films at the Amsterdam Bostheater. On 8 August, we’ll be screening the award-winning and powerful film I Swear.

About the Film

When the intelligent and athletic Scottish teenager John Davidson suddenly develops uncontrollable tics and vocal outbursts, his life is turned upside down overnight. At a time when Tourette syndrome was still poorly understood, he is faced with misunderstanding and loneliness.

But over time, John discovers that embracing who he is — together with the support of the people around him — gives him the strength to find his own voice.

I Swear is a heartwarming true story about embracing what makes us different and the power of community. It’s no surprise that the film became one of the biggest arthouse hits of 2026, won two BAFTA Awards, and received the Audience Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Special Programme

This evening is dedicated to mental health and the power of community, featuring three inspiring guests: child therapist, author, and podcast maker Caroline Beerkens; writer, poet, spoken word artist, musician, and teacher Jesse Laport; and Dutch singer-songwriter Blaudzun. Caroline Beerkens supports parents, children, and professionals with topics such as parenting, personal development, and emotional wellbeing. Through an accessible and practical approach, she encourages conversations about resilience, connection, and mental health within families. Jesse Laport was the city poet of Arnhem and is the Poet Laureate of Gelderland. In his poetry and performances, he combines personal stories with social observations and themes such as identity, health, grief, love, and self-reflection. With his open and approachable style, he creates space for encounters and conversations about personal and social issues. Blaudzun (Johannes Sigmond) is known for his distinctive voice, layered lyrics, and captivating live performances. Since his debut, he has built an impressive body of work with multiple award-winning albums and performances at major Dutch festivals. His music explores personal stories, emotion, and reflection, touching on themes such as vulnerability, loss, connection, and resilience. His work invites recognition and conversation. Blaudzun will also provide the live music for this evening.
