Not Quichot

A psychedelic storytelling trip

Everyone is going crazy in this world. Yep, you too. No one knows what is real and what is delusion. Survival is a happy accident rather than the result of deliberate handling. In other words, we are all the foolish hero with good intentions Don Quichot. Or not?

These days, no one knows what is real and what is delusion. How many different versions of a story can co-exist in one performance? How many improbable events can you justify in your own head? In Not Quichot, six storytellers commemorate their good friend Q, but who was Q’s bést friend? Through tall stories, they take you on their adventures with Q across the whole and half of Europe, through the mountains, forests, past farmer protests and burning libraries.

In Not Quichot, six storytellers commemorate their good friend Q, but who was Q’s best friend? Through powerful stories, they take you on their adventures with Q across Europe and beyond—through mountains and forests, past farmers’ protests and burning libraries. No duo handles a classic like Don Quixote quite as stylishly as writer Joachim Robbrecht and director Sarah Moeremans, smashing it against the wall to extract the strongest elements from the fragments.

Who is Sarah Moeremans?

Sarah Moeremans is the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel. Since 2021, she has been involved with the company as a resident director and co-artistic leader. Her work is philosophical with a touch of satire, with language as its primary building block. Since 2013, she has regularly collaborated with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she created, among others, the audience favorite Shut Up and Play With Me (nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Award), the theatre experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete?, and the major Oerol hit Rijgen.

About Het Zuidelijk Toneel

Het Zuidelijk Toneel is the leading theatre company in the south of the Netherlands, touring from its home base in Tilburg throughout the Netherlands and Flanders. From the smallest to the largest stages, a new permanent ensemble of six bold performers takes the stage. They are driven rather than restrained by the company’s first female artistic director, Sarah Moeremans. Together with a diverse group of resident directors, Het Zuidelijk Toneel creates productions that excite, move, and energize audiences. This includes successful productions such as Een Leuk Avondje Uit, Crashtest Ibsen, and Shut Up and Play With Me, which have become audience and critical favorites.
