Let your walls come down and experience a natural high you’ll wish could last forever. Spiral is an immersive experience that invites the audience to become part of it. In this AYA production by Anne Suurendonk, five dancers take the audience on a collective journey, driven forward by music from composer and producer Tom van Wee.

Being yourself, losing yourself, finding yourself again. The feeling of being together in the moment, of completely losing yourself to the world around you. It’s a feeling that can be hard to find in everyday life. In Spiral, you experience the inner journey of a group of dancers as they undergo emotional and physical transformations — breaking free from old patterns, losing themselves, reinventing who they are, and celebrating life and humanity. Gasping for breath to pulsing beats.

A deeply physical experience that spirals between personal and collective transformation in a world adrift.

 

About Anne Suurendonk

Choreographer Anne Suurendonk has developed a contemporary dance language that demands total physical surrender — consuming, spitting out, and explosive. She combines academic dance with elements from street and club styles, such as groove and “juice.” In 2024, she won the Nederlandse Dansdagen Innovation Award.

Anne previously created performances for Danstheater AYA, including High, Bloedband, and Liefde en dan. AYA is a company for young audiences, creating unconventional productions that blend dance, theatre, and live music inspired by a range of youth cultures.

Danstheater AYA receives structural funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
