Crisis of Comfort

Wat is de troost die we zoeken in onszelf en de anderen? Wat is de betekenis van liefde en intimiteit in de hedendaagse tijd?
Naast iemand slapen is de meest intieme daad.
In een plastic bed vallen twee dansers in slaap in het bos. We volgen hun slaapcycli en zien hoe hun bewustzijn en onderbewustzijn troost zoekt in dans. Een muzikale compositie gemaakt van trillingen en opdringerige gedachten.
Gaja Caruso en Rosie Reith, dansen en spelen hun persoonlijke zoektocht op de groene grond van het Amsterdamse Bos. Hoe verhoudt hun zoektocht naar de natuur zich tot hun zoektocht naar comfort? Staan ze op afstand van zichzelf en elkaar als ze moeite hebben om verbinding te maken met het bos?

What is the comfort that we search for within ourselves and the others? What is the meaning of love and intimacy in the specificity of contemporary era? What is the role that connection to the forest can and should play in all of this searching?
To sleep next to someone is the most intimate act.
Set in a plastic bed, two dancers fall asleep in the forest. Following the dramaturgy of their sleep cycles, we see their conscious and subconscious minds seek comfort through dance. Set to a musical composition made out of vibrations and intrusive thoughts.
Gaja Caruso and Rosie Reith, dance and play their personal search on the green soil of the Amsterdamse Bos. Their primary research questions are ‘How does our search for nature relate to our search for comfort? Are we distanced from ourselves and each other because we struggle to connect to the forest? Is the crisis of love related to the crisis of touch with our primal selves?

Over de makers / About the makers
Gaja Caruso is danser, dansdocent en theatermaker. Ze is geboren en getogen in de bossen van Slovenië, verbleef enkele jaren in België en Hongarije, en vond haar plek uiteindelijk in Groningen. Hier maakt ze nieuwe voorstellingen en geeft ze les in haar eigen, unieke interpretatie van beweging: BodyLab. Ze maakt deel uit van het Station Noord programma en wordt ondersteund door partners Club Guy & Roni en Grand Theatre.
Rosie Reith is een artiest uit de UK, gevestigd in Groningen. Ze zit in het NITE ensemble met Club Guy & Roni en maakt graag werk met dans, tekst, comedy en design. Ze stemde niet voor Brexit.
Rik van den Heuvel (1988) is componist en muziekproducent. Na zijn afstuderen in 2017 aan het conservatorium in compositie en muziekproductie, werkte hij aan verschillende projecten in zijn studio in de Biotoop in Haren. Door het gebruik van grotendeels akoestische instrumenten en field recordings krijgen zijn elektronische producties een organisch en menselijk karakter.

Gaja Caruso is a dancer, dance teacher and theater maker. She was born and raised in the forests of Slovenia, spent several years in Belgium and Hungary, and finally found her place in Groningen. Here she creates new performances and teaches her own, unique interpretation of movement: BodyLab. She is part of the Station Noord program and is supported by partners Club Guy & Roni and Grand Theatre.
Rosie Reith is a performer from the UK, based in Groningen. She is in the NITE ensemble with Club Guy & Roni and enjoys making work with dance, text, comedy and design. She didn’t vote for Brexit.
Rik van den Heuvel (1988) is a composer and music producer. After graduating from the conservatory in composition and music production in 2017, he worked on various projects in his studio in the Biotoop in Haren. The use of largely acoustic instruments and field recordings gives his electronic productions an organic and human character.
